The beauty of this tool, like bikes with the Diagnostics Function pre-installed on the bike is, that you can troubleshoot, "real time" using the Sensor Operation and Sensor Actuation functions within the software of the tool.so basically, you narrow down the faulty component(s), almost, immediately. So, normally, one would never need this you get into a situation, where you are troubleshooting, using whatever tools you have (ie.Service Manual, Owner's Manual, Experience, Word of Mouth, etc, etc.) and you get "Stuck" and can not resolve the problem.you are "SOL" and the only things that you can do, is to start testing each and every one of the components on the bike that are related to the area of the problem.once you isolate it down to one or more components, then you would need to go purchase that item(s), put it in and "roll the dice".OR.take the bike to an Authorized Yamaha Dealer that has this tool or does the troubleshooting for you, as described above.but I can tell you right now.there are very few dealers that carry this tool unless they needed it in the past on other bikes that the tool is used for.most do not have the tool.so they would either troubleshoot it, "old school" or contact Yamaha Dealer Services and apply to get the tool. Yeah.on the is something that you will never see on the Multifunction Meter.you ONLY get "Fault" and "Error" codes in the LCD, when things go "South".and the ECU is programmed for an automatic "Reinstatement" or in other words, "Normalization" of any of those codes, once you correct the symptom causing the Fault or Error. This picture is just the Kit before getting it out of the box. When I really jump into it.I will post better pictures and write-ups. This is the first check and only lasted about 10-15 minutes since I have company coming over tonight for dinner.and the attached pictures here and the subsequent posts are NOT good but they are good enough for now. So anyway, I got the Yamaha Diagnostic Tool Kit yesterday and after totally studying the wiring, connected everything and at least my understanding of the "Wake Up" was right.got a sniffer on there. The problem is knowing the "initiation sequence" to wake up the ECU in order to get it to talk to the software.and that in itself is like winning the lottery.the combination of sequence commands is nearly "INFINITE". Well, there have been several threads where I mentioned that I have been playing around with the Diagnostics on the Bolt and although I am ALMOST there in getting into it, since I made my own program and have the USB Adapter and can communicate with the ECU, at least the software and the adapter know that the ECU is there.
